JBO Poker Dice is no more and no less than a computer based version of the popular dice game which uses five dice with playing-card type values rather than the numbers one to six. In this version, the dice faces are represented by graphics of elegant and modern styling. The computer decides on a fifty:fifty random basis who throws first for each hand.
Poker dice rules vary from place to place but generally it is accepted that poker dice and the card game poker are unrelated (scoring five aces might not meet with approval in a card game!). In poker dice, a straight is scored by its highest die, so AKQJ10 is an Ace high hand, and nothing more. A full house is worth little more than any other 'three of a kind' and 'two pairs' is not necessarily any better than one pair.
The highest hand is five Aces (14406 points), second highest is five Kings (12005 points), and so on. Thus five Nines (2401 points) beats four Aces (2063 points if the other die is King). Residual dice also score some points. The lowest scoring hand is KQJ109 (fifteen points). The scoring in this version of the game therefore reflects the probability of a given hand, as well as the values of the dice faces. In all cases, the scoring system ensures that each hand is scored fairly. The computer follows the same process of three throws and displays the result of each. The computer does not cheat and always aims to achieve the optimum hand.
Please follow the hints which appear in the status bar to guide you through the game. Click on any of your dice to engage hold. If you wish to change your selection before taking your next throw, click the hold indicator beneath the die you wish to release and the hold will be cancelled. You must take all three of your throws to complete your hand, although you may of course hold all five dice if you wish to do so.
An authentic and original sound effect is integrated within the game. To play the sound effect with each roll of the dice, toggle between 'Silent' and 'Audio' (the default setting is 'Silent').
